Nicola did a BA in English at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford, and then a MA in Development Studies at the School of Oriental and African Studies, London

She was formerly Vice-President of Scholastic where she had developed educational gaming products.

She now produces independent films with Joel. "Jump Tomorrow" won a BAFTA award in 2002. 

They have three boys: 
Jesse (b. 2004),  Caspar (b. 2006).and Max (b. 2010).
