Julian was
educated at Charterhouse. He studied Fine Art at the Slade
School of Art, London and Engineering at Balliol College Oxford. (rusticated).
He bought paintings for the college and edited the magazine Mesopotamia. In 1965 he opened a shop in Oxford selling furniture/china/glass/toys etc. This expanded into a wholesale business which he continued to run for 20 years after the sale of the shop in 1969. He now lives on a 75 acre farm in the Cotswolds with five holiday cottages. He has built a house in the Picos de Europa, Asturias, N.Spain. Julian also makes chairs. See Julian's paintings He was founding chairman of the Stroud Preservation Trust and Chairman of the Stroud Civic Society Julian and Hege, his Norwegian third wife, enjoyed over 20 years together. Julian was diagnosed with bowel cancer on 19th December 2014 and spent most of 2015 undergoing or recovering from operations and chemotherapy. He died at home, surrounded by family and is terribly missed. His funeral was as unconventional, warm and colourful as he was and made the local papers. See Christmas 2005 See Julian and Hege asleep
