Alexander Usborne
Baptised 27th May 1740 at Linton, Kent.
Married Mary Osborne (b.1748?)
on 20th December 1773 at Marden
Alexander died in 1806 at Brenchley.
Mary died in 1799 and was buried at Brenchley.

Alexander was probably running the family farm in Linton on the death of his father in 1771. He was recorded as a tax-payer in 1772/8 and served on the Parish Council in 1772/7 latterly as overseer of the poor. In 1774 he was called "Mr" an indication of his social standing. Around 1778 they moved to Goudhurst and then to Brenchley where he bought Kipping's Cross Farm. He is listed as a tax-payer in 1791.
The reason for his loss of wealth and standing in the community is not recorded. In 1796 he received "one year's rent" from the parish. The parish paid for the coffins when two of his children died of small-pox in 1797. In the same year he was receiving "poor relief" from the parish.
He was 33 years old when he married Mary aged 25. They had eight children.
